Common questions

Before you get started

Will checking my options affect my credit score?

The initial Helix prequalification states that it will not affect your credit score. If you choose to move forward, Dave will explain any later credit authorization before it occurs.

Do I need to complete applications with several lenders?

No. Start with the single prequalification on this page. If another available option could be a better fit, Dave will explain what information or authorization is needed next.

How much equity can I access?

That depends on your home value, current mortgage balance, credit profile, income, property type and the provider’s underwriting requirements.

Is a HELOC the same as a home-equity loan?

No. A HELOC is generally a revolving line that allows repeated draws during a set period. A home-equity loan generally provides one lump sum with a defined repayment schedule.

Can I use a HELOC to consolidate debt?

Potentially, but unsecured debt becomes debt secured by your home. Compare the total costs, repayment period and risks before deciding.
